Happy summer! I’m happy to have been able to interview Asa Rodriguez, an author that writes many different genres.
Asa Rodriguez writes nonfiction and fiction, poetry and prose. He dedicates time to inspire others through his many sites. He values moral character and high standards. He likes painting and sketching when he’s not writing his books. He also enjoys reading and Netflixing. But he specially loves dreaming of new worlds and make them come alive in his writing. He was born in Argentina and currently resides in US, in the beautiful state of Utah.
Q: Tell us a little bit about you and your writing journey.
My name is Asael Rodriguez, and I’m an indie author. I am Latino from Argentina, but I currently reside in the United States. I guess I have always found words and creativity important, because from a young age I was always curious, reading, exploring, playing video games, but especially writing my own stories and drawing.
Q: Can you tell us about how you came up with the idea for your books?
My series BENJAMIN JONES is about a young orphan boy trying to discover what happened to his parents, also discovering his shamanic roots and his connection to an ancient demigod now living inside him. The idea was centered on spirituality from the beginning, because, even though the series has a lot of creativity and fantasy, it is about overcoming the challenges of doubt and fear (the lack of identity we all have growing up).
Q: What are some challenges that you had to overcome while drafting/editing your book?
Oh, I’d say, many challenges. I knew what I wanted to write, but I wanted to make it compelling and emotional to connect better with the reader. That took me time and effort. Sometimes “the muse” wasn’t there.
Q: What advice can you give to authors that are looking to self-publish?
Well, self-publishing is challenging. The most challenging part is actually getting people interested to read your book after you publish it. I’d say that passion and commitment to your work is paramount. Never give up, even if you feel that your hard work is not paying off at the moment.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your books and what types of readers will enjoy it!
Fans of ‘Harry Potter’ and also ‘Percy Jackson’ will enjoy it very much. But also this series has a lot of spirituality in it, because Ben (the main character) learns he is a shaman, and because his friend Adit is an author and spiritual guru who guides him through the journey.
Q: Where can we find your books?
Right now it is FREE to download from the following retailers:
All I ask is that you support me by posting a brief review on Amazon, Goodreads, BookBub, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, or your blog.
A big thank you to Asa for being on the blog and answering some of my questions! If you want to connect with him, check out the links below.
